Whether your budget is small or considerably larger, there are a number of methods which you can choose to spend your money on to gain the interest of a larger audience. For some, the tried and tested methods of traditional marketing have made way for the newer methods of digital in an increasingly online world.

However, this does not mean that you should forego traditional marketing methods in favour of the digital age. The hard-won effectiveness of traditional marketing is still relevant to your business today.

What is Traditional Marketing?

When you think of marketing, you may immediately jump to the idea of website rankings and social media engagement. Yet, before the internet became all-powerful in our lives – all praise our benevolent saviour, Skynet – there were other forms of marketing afoot. Traditional marketing refers to a promotion, advertisement or campaign that involves methods such as print advertisement, newsletters, billboards, flyers and television or radio advertisements. Basically, traditional marketing can be considered an ‘offline’ form of marketing.

The Benefits

There are several benefits to this type of marketing. The first and most obvious being that it is extremely helpful for local campaigns, as you can reach a local target audience easily with these methods. A radio spot in your city or region, for example, will reach the audience you want to reach in your area. There’s no risk of someone from China accessing your content when you’re based in Camden with traditional marketing.

Or, if you choose to use leaflets or a printed advertisement you have the benefit of these materials being saveable. It is far too easy to click on a website and think, “Cool, I’ll revisit that at some point when I have the time/money/etc.” Much harder to actually find that website again if you haven’t bookmarked it. Can you imagine how many missed opportunities there are in life because someone has forgotten how to get back to your website? Luckily, a leaflet can be put in one place and found again at the right time.

Hand-in-Hand Methods

It doesn’t have to be one or the other when it comes to your marketing strategy. A comprehensive digital campaign full of SEO, social media, content and PPC (to use the lingo) is only strengthened by a traditional leaflet or local advertisement. With one you’re sending one hundred arrows into the air in the general direction of the target, hoping one will hit, while with the other you’re pointing your bow directly at the bullseye. Together, these methods will get you on the board.

Ultimately, a multi-channel approach is a tried and tested marketing method. One that has worked over and over again for many businesses.

So, don’t put all your stock in SEO and other modern methods of marketing. Set your marketing campaign to a more traditional door-to-door approach and see how a much more personal approach allows you to stand out and rewards your marketing strategy!
